  1. Oh, Bridget, I'm so terribly sorry to hear about Smidgey. What a wonder dog! Your poem is a lovely tribute to her--as are so many other posts/poems you've shared. I love that you've created a picture book about her and look forward to hearing more about that. In the meantime, I'll be thinking of you.

  2. I'm so sorry. There is nothing like losing a beloved four footed friend. Smidgey was such a ham of a hound. I will miss her too. Take care, friend. I'm so glad you are able to lean on poetry.

  3. Bridget, I'm glad I clicked even though I'm not really doing PoFri today--I'm heartbroken along with you because it was always so clear how big a role Smidgey played in your lives. We lost our old cat on Jan 7, and just last night I was missing her, remembering the good and the annoying ("get OFF my keyboard, Chica!") and thinking of her last days. Bless her memory and your memories of her!

  4. Dear Bridget, as you continue to grieve, please know how much Smidgey has given all of us over the years...so many cute pics, so many smiles! Thank you for sharing your sweet friend with us...looking forward to that picture book. And YAY for your new video series. Wonderful! xo

  5. Bridget, My condolences to you and your family. 14 years is a long time to love sweet Smidgey, so that makes the heartbreak even worse, I believe. I feel like I know her because of all the wee words you wrote about her. Peace.

  6. Bridget, I came to the end of your post and links to other area and found a very sad piece on Smidgey. I just loved that dog and his antics. You were a good Mommy to your precious one. May your picture book bring the world of Smidgey to all of us and future generation of little readers. I extend my sincere condolences to your family. Know that your canine friend will be revered by many.

  11. Bridget, I am so, so sorry. What a sweet angel Smidgey was and is! What an incredible story about her near-death experiences. She was a trooper and clearly a family member. Thinking of you!

  12. I was happy to see your link, looking forward to another Smidgey tale, to find this sad news, Bridget. Pets take our hearts and leave all too soon. Hugs to you and the family! My daughter & family just said goodbye to a dear cat, here so long that all of us in the extended family had fond memories with him, as I know your family & all of your poet friends near & far have, too. This 'village' loved him, too!

  14. Oh, Bridget! That "was" made my heart fall. I knew what was coming. We all know what is coming when we love yet another pet. Smidgey was such a celebrity. We'll ALL miss her, but I know you will/are most of all. Sending hugs.

  17. My heart goes out to you over the loss of Smidgey. I lost my 16 yr old Charlie in September and the emptiness is still there. I miss him every time I come home. He was a faithful friend as I'm sure Smidgey was for you. Thanks for all the ways you support poets. I hope to get my students to do Dear Poet this year.
